Event Rules and Procedures:
EWGA EVENTS 101
As your 2010 Event’s Chair, I’d like to educate everyone with some basics for registration and attendance at any of our many planned golf events.
When signing up for any event, please read all the information about the event, in particular, the method of payment and deadlines.
For example:
•· State Medallion Qualifying Rounds: Register on line only - Pay the Course for Golf. You must have an AWGA Handicap to compete or you may play for fun.
•· Ringer Tournaments: Register on line only - Pay the Course for Golf. The Prize Pool (cash or check to EWGA) is paid to the event coordinator.
•· Monthly Events: Register on line and use Pay Pal or pay the event coordinator by check to EWGA.
•· Leagues: Register on line only, pay for golf at the course, pay the prize pool to the League Chair.
If these simple guidelines are followed, the Event’s Chair/Coordinator”s job becomes so much easier.
Events are set up with the Directors of Golf at the courses we play. We receive discounted rates and some of our event’s include lunch. We reserve a certain amount of tee times in anticipation of attendance. A deadline date for registering is set, usually a week out, so that we may let the course know how many have registered and can free up any unused tee times for the course to fill.
We appreciate your registering by the deadline. This eliminates extra work on the part of the Event’s Coordinator. Our Event Policy does require you to cancel prior to the deadline also, or you will not receive a refund. If you need to cancel after the deadline, and are unable to reach the event’s coordinator by the morning of the event, it is common courtesy to call the golf course and notify them. This also eliminates any concern we have regarding “No Shows.”
As most events are typically stroke play with various formats and prizes are awarded on a Net basis, those players with a handicap may compete and those without may play for fun. We try to group the players in flights according to their handicaps and pace of play, but we are also try to accommodate those players who occasionally have friends they enjoy playing with, if possible. However, part of the EWGA mission is being welcoming and courteous and making new members feel included and part of the group. Please do your part and remember how welcomed and encouraged you felt when you first joined EWGA Old Pueblo and pass that tradition along!
Lastly, Pace of Play is very important. Show up in plenty of time, keep up with the group in front of you and play “Ready Golf.” Unless we are fortunate to have a shotgun start, our tee times can be spread over an hour or more start to finish. We often have a social gathering following play. Be considerate of the group behind you, so they can finish in time for the event luncheon and/or awards. Find out the rule for the particular tournament as to when you should pick up your ball and move to the next hole.
We joined the EWGA to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf, and also to meet new members. So, let’s have some fun!
Please call or email me if you have any questions about upcoming events this year.
