Why do Chapter Members need to log in to the web site to register for events online?
On June 1, 2007 the Tucson - Old Pueblo Chapter of EWGA switched web services to an automated event registration process. This new process requires much less hands-on time from your volunteer board members and ensures automated electronic protection of your credit card information. LOGGING IN IS REQUIRED FOR ONLINE EVENT REGISTRATION. The new service requires members to have an account on the web site to receive member privileges such as member prices for online event registration and internal chapter information. This new service provides a much more automated tracking and event management capability than we have ever experienced. We are hoping that by automating some of the tasks of the volunteer board members, we will be able to focus on providing more and exciting events for all of us, rather than spending time performing routine event management and accounting tasks. Other reasons: - Logging in pre-fills the registration page. If it's not pre-filled, you didn't log in! - The new service is much less expensive to the chapter for credit card payments - The new service eliminates any handling of member's credit card information for online payments - The chapter pays for these services roughly by the number of members/attendees we have. If you sign up for an event without logging in as a member, you end up counting twice, once as a chapter member, and once for each event you register for that you are not recognized as a member. PLEASE LOG IN EVERY TIME BEFORE YOU REGISTER ON-LINE - EVEN IF IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE REQUIRED.
Why did we switch to PayPal for online payments?
The event registration service we selected links directly to PayPal, the online payment service sponsored by eBay. PayPal accepts most major credit cards or a PayPal account. Previously, credit card information was collected online using a manually set-up secure server form. Although the data was encrypted and kept confidential, the old method required significant setup time for each event, as well as manual entry by the chapter board for each credit card payment. Availability of online event registration was delayed and card payments were often processed much later than submitted. PayPal both significantly saves time and ensures credit card privacy as no chapter board see the credit card data. Members are guaranteed privacy with PayPal and the chapter no longer has the responsibility of protecting the information.
What if I don't have/want a PayPal Account?
PayPal accepts most major credit cards or a PayPal account for online payments. If you wish to pay by credit card, hunt around the payment window to find the credit card option. It may not be obvious but it always is available.
What if PayPal only allows payment by a PayPal account?
PayPal always allows payment by credit card. If you ever had a PayPal account (or anyone using your computer had/has and account) then the first option presented will be to use the account. Scroll down or look to the right for the credit card option. You may need to back up a page if you can't find any reference to credit cards. There is always the option to use credit cards rather than a PayPal account - but it can be tricky to find.
I did not complete payment with PayPal. What do I do?
How do I mail in payment?
Mail payments (check payable to EWGA to: Event Coordinator as listed on event registration site. Registration will be confirmed upon receipt of payment. Please send an email to the event coordinator listed on the event registration page indicating your payment is "in the mail".
Can I set up a PayPal Account?
Please course. Please go to www.paypal.com or set the account up while registering for an event. Please see the PayPal site for terms and conditions. Unfornately we are not PayPal experts and most likely can not answer your questions.
